LEADWOOD HEAD WITH SPALTED FIGURED MAPLE HANDLE
With Copper Transition

SPALTED FIGURED MAPLE IS A SHOWSTOPPER
Managed to find time today amongst milling up the handles and heads of about 80% of my backlog to finish this mallet for @samhuff
It’s a Leadwood headed detailing mallet with a stabilised, Spalted figured maple handle in a thin handle style over a thick one
It has a copper transition and copper coin
There is a 15mm brass dowel as per usual and also a 1.5” 10mm dowel in the base of the handle to perfect the balance.
Copper may be an utter bastard to work with, but at least I can source it. The suppliers I’ve ordered my 25/20mm bronze bar from for my hand stamped coins don’t anticipate delivery for ANOTHER 3-4 weeks which is unfortunately pushing my order list around slightly...so thanks for at least coming to play Copper!!
I finished the leadwood head with cellulose sanding sealer and then friction polish followed by Alfie shine and the handle was finished with Osmo thin wax to bring out that deep colour and then Alfie shine wax top!!
Not sure how I feel about this wider transition on the thinner handle, I should have waited and gone with a 30mm spacer but I only got that copper this week and this has been glued up since Jan...what do you guys think?!
Next week we’re going to start hitting top gear...I can feel it!!
